From 2020 through 2023 there were various formats, this section is dedicated to those who were able to not be the worst those years. Some of them might have cheated, some of them won because others sucked, but they were the champions none the less.
2020 - Not yet officially the U.P.I. but enough to know we needed to grow the group and come back the next year - Steve & Bill played ok enough and defeated a struggling Anthony & Bret, Novi later arrived at the bar and learned to not order mixed drinks at the Silver Dollar.
2021 - Dan Brode emerged victorious amid a potential scandal related to not counting high enough on the final day.
2022 - Tommy Ronk was able to play the most consistent in the first year using handicaps, the need for team play became apparent
Novi Tocco was awarded the toilet trophy and most room to improve
2023 - The year of trying some shit out: Teams, net, gross, stableford
Travis Peak - Points and overall Champion
Bill Shoener - Net Champion
Bret Shoener - Gross Champion
Team Odd - Did more gooder on the final day and over took Team Even
Toilet - Jef Dickerson
2024 - Vortex Golf started strong with 1 under at Sage run, taking the lead over Ballz Deep who came in a even par, and Team Fireball who struggled.
Day 2 saw Team Fireball take wins in both matches at Terrace Bluff, and shoot a 9 under at Pictured Rocks. The epic dual between Vortex Golf and Ballz Deep, saw Bret & Erik beat out Jeff and Cody 74 to 76, this will go down as the greatest match in golf history and henceforth be known as the "Battle at the Bluff". That was Vortex's lone match win, while Ballz Deep dropped both matches for the day. Vortex finished Pictured Rocks at 8 under, and Ballz Deep came in at 4 under.
Day 3 saw Fireball dominate the field, taking both matches and 78 points. That was enough to ice Vortex and take home the title of the 2024 UP Invitational Champions.
Teams :
Team Fireball - Bill, Josh, Anthony, Todd
Vortex Golf - Bret, Erik, Jim, Sam
Ballz Deep (Name retired for obvious reasons) - Novi, Tony, Cody, Jef
2025 - Coming out of the gate, Fireball made a statement in the 4 man scramble, kicking off the UPI by taking an early lead, while the spread between the 1st and 3rd place team was only 6 points and almost negligible.
Day 2 opened with a lot of standing around at the NMU course, followed by Fireball taking both of their matches, the Glizzys splitting, and Vortex dropping both matches. In the afternoon, the Heritage course provided further drama, as Vortex took both matches, the Glizzys again split, and Fireball dropped both. Of note, Jim and Sam shot a par round of 71, and helped Vortex vault up the standings to enter the final round in 1st place.
Day 3 again showed us that you don't always want to be in first, with Vortex having to expose pairings and ultimately get out matched. The Fireball and Glizzy match came in as a push, leaving the fate of the UPI up to which team would beat Vortex more handily. In the end an outstanding round from Anthony & Bret brought home 56 points and was enough to slide the Glizzys into first by a mere 5 points.
Teams:
Psychedelic Glizzys - Anthony, Bret, Travis, Josh
Team Fireball - Bill, Cody, Jeff, Novi
Vortex Golf - Jim, Erik, Todd, Sam
